This sounds unromantic (and it is), but a good financial advisor can be really valuable. They can advise on best savings schemes, how the couple can better manage their finances etc. It’s certainly a practical gift, but can really set the couple off with a good start to their married life!
I’ve done a lot of photography in my time and been on several courses, so I offered to be the photographer at my cousin’s wedding, rather than getting a gift. She really likes my photography and was really pleased with the idea (partly because wedding photographers are expensive). Not everyone would want an amateur to do this, so be prepared for a knock-back and you may want to suggest it in a way that allows the couple to turn you down 🙂
I combined photos of the lead up to the wedding as well as the actual day (just to complete the story), and this is something you wouldn’t get from a professional
My cousin and his new wife couldn’t afford a honeymoon (they’ve just had a baby), so we all clubbed together and bought them FlightCentre vouchers. They were literally tearful when they received the gift and were then able to plan their trip. Really recommmend clubbing together to get something special like this, rather than buying lots of toasters.
My best friend didn’t want the first dance at her wedding to be boring, so so my gift to her and her husband to be was a couple of dance lessons in preparation for the big day! They worked with a choreographer and designed something personal to them. It was fantastic when they performed it on the day – they even got some comedy moments in there!
Wanted to make sure son and daughter in law had a great honeymoon, so we sent them off with a wad of dollars (they were going to the US for their trip). They always end up spending money on everyday things, or saving it for a bigger house, so this was my way of making sure they spent it on something fun for themselves!
There is a plant called ‘The-Mother-In-Law Tongue’ which looks great in any home. I bought it for my new son in law as a wedding present to add a little comedy – he tells me he waters it every day! (which is far too frequently and tells me he’s clearly trying to kill it).
For my sister’s wedding, I bought her and her husband a house blitz – bascially a professional cleaning company scrubbed their house from top to bottom. Their house is always clean and tidy anyway, but the cleaners did all those jobs that you never get round to doing. It was the perfect way to start their new life together – clean and bright. Would make a nice Christening gift for stressed out mums.
