Be their wedding photographer (if they are on a tight budget…)

By |November 21st, 2015|

I’ve done a lot of photography in my time and been on several courses, so I offered to be the photographer at my cousin’s wedding, rather than getting a gift. She really likes my photography and was really pleased with the idea (partly because wedding photographers are expensive). Not everyone would want an amateur to do this, so be prepared for a knock-back and you may want to suggest it in a way that allows the couple to turn you down 🙂

I combined photos of the lead up to the wedding as well as the actual day (just to complete the story), and this is something you wouldn’t get from a professional

I’ll cook you….

Write out a menu card, with Starter, Main and Dessert, but leave the foods blank. Your recipient can fill in the menu card with their favourite foods, and you will promise to cook it for them. Probably only works if you have a bit of a cooking repertoire.

Reprint an old photo from when they were courting

When my friend got married I printed a photo of her and her husband from the night they first met (which was in a bar). It’s actually a nice photo and they were really touched by it and now have it in their living room.

Paint a room for them (include or exclude paint based on your budget!)

This year (because my brother had no money) mum suggested he could paint a room in grandmas house as his christmas present to her. Mum bought the paint, so this wasn’t something he had to buy. Seemed to work out well for all involved.

16 things for 16 years old

Bought my boyfriend 16 token things for his birthday in one big box. Was quite fun to do – did things from socks, to a cd. Each one had a meaning. Works for any age (although it does get more expensive 😉

Charity shop storm

You may not like this idea – but theres so much great vintage clothing and you can get some real finds – plus its a good cause, plus you get more for your money. I bought a Laura Ashley dress for my mum – it was in fantastic condition and she really liked it – cost me under a fiver!
