There is a plant called ‘The-Mother-In-Law Tongue’ which looks great in any home. I bought it for my new son in law as a wedding present to add a little comedy – he tells me he waters it every day! (which is far too frequently and tells me he’s clearly trying to kill it).
Sounds a little crazy we know, but my friends and I bought our friend a beehive for his 40th birthday, this included the hive, the bee-keeper suit and instructional DVD. You have to buy the bees separately in the Spring. Apparently it is extremely rewarding and you can even sell the honey and some kits come with a honey for sale sign! how sustainable!
Pollinates the garden as well, supports the British countryside and also saves the dying-out honey bee! Cost: hive £125, beekeepers suit and gloves £60, DVD and accessories £80, membership to Beekeeper Association £33 so about £300 (excluding the bees)
